THREE OLD RESIDENTS DEAD.
THREE OLD RESIDENTS OF JASPER COUNTY DIE IN QUICK SUCCESSION.’ By a sfrange coincidence three old residents of Jasper county have died in quick succession, one on Friday, one on’Saturday ard one on Sunday. WILLIAM PAXTON. The first of these deaths was that of William Paxton. Though an old and well known resident of Jasper county, both in Rensselaer and on the old Paxton farm in Newton tp„ his death did not occur in this county, but in Montpelier, this state, whioh hss been his residence for some time past, The particulars of his death have not been received, but it ocoured la6t Friday night, and quite suddenly and unexpectedly, for although ho had been in poor health for some time, his death was not looked for so soon. Be leaves a large family of children all of adult age and most of them with families of their own, The only one of the children still residing in this ooun. ty is Charles Paxton of Newton tp., who has gone to attend the funeral which, as understood here was held at Montpelier, tcday. Mr. Paxton was well in years, being about 82years old.
SAMUEL PARKER. Samuel Parker, one of the oldest and earliest of Jasper oounty’s surviving settlers, died at 10 o’clock last Saturday morning, Sept. 17th at the home of his sod, Samuel Parker Jr,, in Hanging Grove tp. His age was 85 years and 10 days. The funeral was lieldJSunday ht 2:30 at the home where he died, by Rev. H. L. Kindig of Rensselaer and interment was in Osborne cemttery. The funeral was very largely attended. , He was born in Virginia but moved to LaPorte county this state with his parents, when 9 years old, and was married in LaPorte county, and soon after located in Jasper county, and at his death had been a continuous resident for 55 years. He had been in failing health for nearly a year, and was confined to his bed nesily 14 weeks. The cause of his death was tuberculosis of the bowels, and pe itonitis, He was the father of 12 children six of whom survive him; namely Isaao, Felix, Jaoob, George and Samuel Parker, and Mrs. Ida Kenton wife of Frank Kenton. One son. Albert died only last year. There are also 37 grandchildren and 7 gi eat-gran d-ohild-ren.
ISAAC ALTER Isaac Alter died Sunday, Sept. 18th at 2 o’olock a. m., at the home of his son, John E. Alter, in Union tp., and just two hours after his 78th birthday. He had been sick ; for a long time with tuberculosis of the [bowels, complicated with Bright’s disease, He had been a resident of Jasper county nearly CO years. The funeral was held on Monday at two p. m. at Rosebud churoh, and interment made in Sandridge cemetery. A more extended eketoh of his life will be given later.
