When the little girl saw Corrotoro at work chopping a block of ice in his basement she went down quite naturally and reached out her hand for a small piece. “Take away your hand,” snarled Corrotoro. Evidently the child did not understand, for she took the fragment of ice, but before she could withdraw her hand Corrotoro brought his ax on it, severing it at her wrist. STRIVING FOR PENNANTS. Leading Boston Doctor Accused of Passing Spurious Bills. Dr. F. Sauft, one of the leading physicians of the Roxbury district, Boston, was placed under arrest, charged with passing a counterfeit §2 bill. A search of his home on Center street disclosed $lO,000 in counterfeit $2 bills, a photographic apparatus such as is used by counterfeiters’and a quantity of paper similar to that on which the bills were made. Six Firemen Badly Injured. Six firemen, among them Chief Kehoe, were so badly injured flat one will probably die and SBO,OOO damage was done by fire in the Printers’ Exchange iu Minneapolis. The companies occupying the building were the Bliss-Painter Clothing Company, loss, $45,000; Minneapolis Printing Company, loss, $20,000, and the Printers’ Supply Company, loss, $15,000. Takes Poison by Error and Dies. As a result of taking .poison, which she supposed td be cream pf tartar. Mrs. Jennie Helm, wife of Moritz Helm of New York City, died at the Lindell Hotel in St. Louis. Frank Farthing, a young drug-»elerk of Odin, 111., who sold the poison, was held pending the corqner’s inquest. Priest Falls from Window. Rev. Michael Healey, pastor of St. Mary’s church of Tiffin, Ohio, was found lying unconscious on the coucrete walk between the church and parsonage of St. Columba’s church, Youngstown, Ohio. He died without regaining .consciousness. Father Healey some time during the night fell from a second story window. Robber Gives up $30,000 Loot. Securities, cash and diamonds valued at $50,000, which had formed part of the loot of the Bear Mouth train robbery, have been recovered. John .Christie, arrested in Hope, N. D., guided Special Agent McFetridge to the place where the cache was made, eight miles below, the scene of the robbery. Aerolite’s Fall Causes Shock. The State Department has asked for the extradition from Beavermouth, B. C., of William Bakka, who was treasurer of the lied Lodge of Miners in Montana and is charged with having stolen $1,050 from the union. • v Admiral Schley "Rubs It In.” Naval circles are stirred by Admiral Rehley’s article in a prominent periodical on the battle of Santiago,'in which he refers to himself as being in personal command.
