Home and the School.

In the new oourse of study prepared by State Superintendent Cotton, which has just come from the press, special attention, from a pedagogic point of view, is paid to the correlation of the home and the sohool. Aooording to the idea of Mr. Cotton, the sohool has in former years been kept too far apart from the home, and consequently the sohool has been made too abstraot. Mr. Cotton has suggested in the oourse of instruction that as far as possible, the lesson be based on things that are a part of the child’s life. The course of study makes the nature study work that has been a part of the oourse of study of last year fit direotly into the suggested oourse in agriculture. The teachers of the oountry sohool will be asked to pay particular attento tne study of nature, and to manual training, because they have material for these branches within easy reach. The other changes in the course of study were made necessary by the new books that will be introduced into the Indiana sohools.
