A Nephew of Russell Sage.
“Unole Russell” Sage,, of New York, was 92 3 ears old a few days ago, and he oelebrated the day by not going down to cffioe in Wall street, to orowd a little more work oat of his employes. It has been widely published since his birthday that he has two million dollars for every year he is old, or 184 millions. Whether this be so or Dot, be certainly has aooumuiated vast wealth by his shrewd and unmeroifal methods in handling fit oks and similar property in Wall street. What will beoome of hie wealth when he dies, no one knows. Elisha Sage, who lives on a rented farm, in Walker tp. is an own nephew of his, bat so far has derived mighty little benefit from the relatiorship. He is a poor hardworking man and all his family are hard workers also. So far as we have ever been able to learn the ODly aesistanoe bis enormously wealthy nnole ever gave him, was to lend him a little money when he was hard pressed, whioh had to be well ssoared and promptly paid, interest as well as prinoipal. As before said this Mr. Sage iB a poor man with no land of bis own, and his personal property said to be heavily mortgaged. Since the reoent death of bis oldest daughter, he ba9 only two children left, s girl of about 15 and a boy of about 12. It is said that since his daughter’s death, he is disoontented here, and thinks of moving baok to Will county, 111., his former home. Poor as he'is and afflicted as he is, we doubt not he is happier and sleeps better at nights than his selfish uncle with his countless millions.
