The Igorrotes at Indianapolis.
Indianapolis, Aug. 9th. Eight Igorrotes, the dog eaters from the Philippine reservation at the world’s fair, stopped in Indianapolis thirty-five minutes on their way to Washington to see the president, and the attaches at the Union station are barely convalescent from the nervous shock, Igorrotes taboo olothing and the traveling costumes of the men and women in the party could have all been carried in a lunch box. The first thought of the station masters as the visitors landed was to call for the police. When the matron saw the women she took off her apron and was about to throw it about one, thinking she had had her clothing tom off in a railroad accident, perhap?. The boy at the lunch counter dropped a plate of boiled eggs and the pretty cashier slunk behind the desk. The yard detectives had never sized op such men before and held hasty consultations over the bolos the men toyed with. - The Igorrotes did not mind it a bit. They walked about the station as graven images who had suddenly come to life and talked and ate boiled eggs and ham sandwiches. There was no dog meat at the lunch stand. The suits the men wore could have been made from a bandana handkerchief. The women had more elaborate costumes. They had some beads and combs. Three of the men were chiefs of high degree—Antonio, the Apollo of the Bontoc Igorrotes; Chief BucassaD of the Syrocs and Datto Fecundo, lord of the 29,000 Samal Moros, grand vizier and half brother of the rajah of Nuda Mandi. There will be something to enliven the dull season at the national capital when they arrive in Washington.
