Joe Francis Bound Over.
Joe Franois bad his preliminary bearing Friday-afternoon, on the charge of felonious assanlt in shooting his former best girl, Miss Bessie Umphress. The hearing was before Sqnire Troxell, in the ladies waiting room, at the court house. The state was represented by the resident deputy proeeoator, R. W. Marshall, and the defenoe by G. A- Williams. Young Francis is a big, hearty, boyish and good natured looking tail, and Miss Umphress a oomely and modest appearing young lady. Her father lives at Fair Caks and vicinity, but for quite a long time she has worked for the H. O. Harris family, in town. The state only placed three of its witnesees on the stand, Dr. Johnson Constable Vick and Miss Umphress. And the defense did not offer any evidenoe at all. The facts brought out did not differ materially from those stated previously in tuis paper. The couple have been keeping company sinoe December but have been falling out lately, and seem, ingly the young lady has shown a desposition to break off the courtship. Thursday night they met and quarreled, and at his request she went home and secured and returned to him certain presents he had given her, including two rings, a breoelet. photograph etc. Dr. Johnson, told of the nature us the wound and the bullet holes in her skirls. The wound though very painful was neither long nor deep, nor at all likely to be dangerous. Officer Vick told of finding the revolver and the flattened bullet. The justice decided that the evidenoe was sufficient to justify holding the defendant to the cirouit court and the bond was placed at SI,OOO, It was furnished at onoe by his father J. C. Franois and his brother in-law, Erhardt Weurthper, -Jr. *
