A Study Of Drainage.

Prof. Wm D. Pence O. E. of Purdue University, with his field assistant, A. B. Duncan, are spending some time in Ren6Belaer and vicinity on an interesting and im portant errand. They are working under direotion of Dr. Elwood Mead, ohief of the Irrigation and Drainage Bureau, of the Agricultural Department, at Washington, They are making a thorough study of the drainage practice, methods, laws etc , of Indiana, with all of its drainage processes. This state having been specially ohosen as the best in the oountry for the purpose, aud Jasper county as the beet field in the state in whioh to .make their practical observations. The result of their work will ultimately be published in a bulletin, by the Agricultural department, The purpose is to give other states and territories, especially the newer ones, the benefit of Indiana’s methods. It is also proposed to establish here a gaging station to observe the flow of water in the Iroquois, both as it remains before the Iroquoiß ditoh is out aud afterwards.
