Gen. Niles Missing From Asylum.
Gen. Edwin R. Niles, a wellknown northern Indiana lawyer and ex-soldier, who formerly resided at Valparaiso, Laporte and Goiben, escaped from Longoliff asylum two weeks ago and no trace has been fomdof him, though the police of many cities have been supplied with a description of the missing man. Gen. Niles has a brilliant record as a soldier, having been an officer in the famous “bloody 9th” Indiana regiment one company of which was raised here and of which Gen, Milroy was the first colonel. Upon his return from the front he traveled all over the east as a circuit minister of the Christian deuoa ination, but bis mind finally gave way under the strein of hard work. After I eing placed in the asylum he developed a hobby for the practice of law and was given a small office in the asylum yn.d, where be spent much time preparing pipers for imaginary clients. It was while thus engaged that he mysteriously disappeared.
