Can Now Send Money By Telegraph
The Wet tern Union Telegraph office here has increased its business so much, that it has been made a transfer office, that is one which can receive or send money by telegraph. This new arrangement went in force the Ist of May. The expense of sending mcney by telegraph is afoourse, largely on the basis of the amount sent. The fixed expense is a charge of doable the rate ot a 10 word message, to the point to be reached, and in addition to this, a fee of one cent on the dollar of the amount sent.
Thus to send say SIOO to Chicago, where a regular 10 word message is 25 cents, the cost would be, for the money telegram 50 cents and one per cent of the SIOO, or one dollar; making the total cost $1 50To send more would add a cent for t each extra dollar, and to send less, would take off a cent, only after it is down to $25 the fee remains 25 cents, no mattet how little is sent. To send to places farther away the per cent fees are no hrger, but the double telegraph tolls increase with distance
