Brain Heads Bumped the Beer Heads
The glory of being the head of the ticket of the Democratic party of Rensselaer was short but brilliant, in George Striokfaden’s case. It lasted ouly a few hours at the most, As near as oan be ascertained, it seems that the so-called "wise heads” of the party, after the fiist flush of enthusiasm had died away oonoluded that the nomination of the popular saloonist was a mistake. In view of the “unaccountable prejudice” that exists here in this community against the vocation of saloon keepers. And perhaps also they were moved by compassion for the zealous prohibition editor of tbe ‘‘official” organ of their party, at the prospect of his being called upon to support a m'oon keeper for mayor. Anyhow they got after Striok aud convinced him that it would be a w : <»o policy to withdraw. That he was the popular ohoioe of the party was evident however, (from the enthusiasm for him manifested at the convention. It seems to have been a case of beer heads against brain heads, and the brain heads got in tfnir work last.
