Union Township Convention.

A Republican township conven tion which has attracted more than ordinary interest, because of the lively preliminary contest for the nominations, was held last Saturdsy afternoon, at Parr, t > nominate a candidate for to wnship officers for Union township. It wag to a considerable extent, the north precinct against the south, and Fair Oaks against Parr, with Yirg e on the skirmish line for the north side, and Aix lined up in a like position for the south. Two good men were out for trustee, and three for assessor. For trustee George J. Thomas, of Fair Oaks was nominated, he having received 116 votes, to 88 for David S. Alter, of r ear Parr.

For assessor the north end wa-t also the victor the nominee being J. R. Mellatt, ho having 115 votes to John Porter 74, and S. R. Shreeves 6.

The preliminary contests though spirited were not bitter and no illfeeling remains to make rough the road towards election.
