A Notable Matrimonial Event
One of the largest and most elegant matrimonial events witnessed in Rensselaer for a long time past was the wedding, Wednesday evening, April 6tb, 1904, of Miss Leia C. Coen and Mr- Judson E . Maines. It took place at the elegant McCoy avenue home of Mr. and Mrt Charles W. Coen, brother and sis ■ ter of the bride and with whom she has made her home since ear'y childhood.
The ceremony took plana promptly at 8 o’clock p. m , and was preceded by a solo, ‘‘Oh Promise Me” by Mrs.’ E. 0. English The bridal party then entered the room, to the strains of Mendellsohn’s Wedding March, performed by Miss Mildred Harris. Miss Olive Lawless,-of Vermillion, Ohio, was the brides’ maid and Mr. Jessie M. Coen, of Chicago, the “best man.” Little Helen Randle was the flower girl. The bride was attired in white brocaded silk. The bridesmaid’s costume was a'so white.
The wedding ceremony was pronounced by Rev. J. L. Brady, and the ring was used The number present was about 150. After the ceremony an elegant and elaborate wedding supper was served. The rooms were beautifully decorated, with pink and white as the prevailing colors, and which were a'so the colors of the .bride's cake. The guests present from other places were: Miss Olive M. Lawless, Edward L. Coen and son of Vermillion, O. Fred W Coen and Miss Nellie G. Coen, of Cleveland, O Miss Clara Coen, of Ashtabula, O.
Mr. and Mrs. Albert E. Coen, of Mecca, Ind. Jesse M, Coen, of Chicago. Ben F. Coen, of Rockford. 111. Delos Coen, of Yale University. These guests included all the brothers and sisters of the bride, and it was the first time they had all met together for 17 years. The bridal presents were not only unusually numerous, but were beautiful and desirable to a degree seldom heretofore equalled at any similar occasion in our city. The newly married couple will begin housekeeping in the Dexter residence, on McCoy avenue, which is a'ready furnished and fitted for their occupancy.
