Townships Must Pay Tuition.
The supreme court a few days ago held that a township which transfers pupils to a city high school nnder the law of 1901 must pay their tuition for the entire term that the city schools are in session, although its own sohool term is little more than half as long. The controversy was between Perry township, in Monroe oonnty, which baa a Bohool term of five months, and the oity of Bloomington, which has a term of nine months. The city demanded $2 a month (the maximum rate under the law) for nine months, and induced the auditor to hold the monev out of the special sohool revenues belonging to Perry township - . The township sued to enjoin him from paying more than $lO for each pupil. In reversing the £kSe, Judge Jordan says the Supreme oourt does not decide whether the act is just or unjust, but may only determine tjie question whether the Legislature had power to aniict it. The act is held not to be unconstitutional.
