A Good Horse Drowned. —— Monday afternoon abcut three o’olook, O. R. Lewis, whose home is in Wheatfield tp, met with a mishap wbiob caused him the loss of a valuable horse. He was started to drive through to Illinois to work this summer, and had arrived to nearly Mark Reed’s plaor, in Jordan tp. He was driving along the high grade leading to the bridge over Carpenter’s Creek, just east of Mr. Reea’s plaoe, .and his horses, going too near the side of the grade, wbioh was overfbwed, slipped off the grade into deep wsjter Both horses went off the grade and got down, but one had sh ,rp shoes and got up agaiD, aud was resoued, The other, whioh was not shod, was drowned, and fl rated down the stream. It was * good horse, wbrth about $125, and had on a good harness. Mr. Racd and other neighbors helped Lewis get his buggy out, and he then ohanged bis buggy tongue for a pair of thills, and re sumed bis journey with one horse. Lewis is a brother-in-law of little Billy Smith, of Rensselaer.
