Another Big Drainage Scheme.

Which Promises To Drain The Whole Kankakee Region. i. ’ p A new plan for the drainage of the Kankakee.r-gion is now foot in which if successful will mean much to the north part of Jasper county, and in fact be of much value to the whole Kankakee region Nels Morris of Chicago •has interested himself in the matter and will Jend helpinghand as much of the territory as-. fejted is embraced in his immense r-al estate holdings along the river, especial y in Jasper county. The plan as at present outlined is to start a big dredge near the eastern ine ot Porter county and run south to the Kankakee, intersecting the river about four miles west of the Laporte county line. Instead of ending there it is planned to continue th< ditch across the river and in a southwesterly direction through Nee Morris property and finely opening into the Kankakee river proper at some point below Water Valley or Shelby in Newton county It is also planned to connect the big waterway with the Yel ow River ditch in Laporte county near English Lake and also with the Hodge ditch in this county This will perfect the drainage system of the Kankakee

Arrangements have been made for a consultation of Nels Morris and his engineers and the civil engineers of Porter county of Valp raiso today at which time the ground will be gone over and the feasibility of the -plan carefully inquired into.
