Was A Big Rainfall.
Up to the time the rain turned to snow Friday morning, the total rainfail of the recent storm was 2.71 inches. This, added to the fully another inch of water already l on the ground in the shape ot snow, made nearly four inches of water to run off in about two days’ time, and naturally enough very high water has resulted, and especially as it came in the winter while the ground is frozen solid and unable to absorb any of it The floods and ice gorges have been wide-spread and disastrous, extending over many states. But even during the few years the weather bureau has maintained a station here, we have had several bigger rains.* Thus during 24 hours from 5 p m. Oct. 13,1901, there was 3.65 inches 6f rain, and on Deo 13, that same year, there was 2.55 inches. On June 27tb, 28th, and 29tb, 1902, when our former big flood was, there was 5.42 inches in the three days. Two days later there was another inch and a week later 2.70 inches But for real hard raining while it lasted, a summer shower which covered the country from Remington half way to Rensselaer, in July 1901, still keeps the record. In just one hour just three inches of water fell at that time.
