A Brutal Murder at Bedford.
A most brutal murder was committed at Bedford, this state, Tnursd iy night, but not discovered until Friday morning The victim whs Vli~H B>rah Schafer, a teacher in the Bedford high school, and a , moet estimable and highly esteemed young woman, Sie was waylaid while on her way from her boarding .house to her lodging rooms, and outraged and murdered. A few hairs in her fingers evidently from a mustache, has lead to the conclusion that her murderer was a whileman, al though a negro is also said to have been seen in the vicinity that evening. Mies Schafer’s home was at Elkhart. She graduated from the State normal at Terre Haute, last spring, and bad also been doing special work at DuPauw A reward of SI,OOO is offered for the murderer. E. E Brooks, one of our high school teachers, was a classmate of Miss S ihafer, at Terre Haute, and very intimately acquainted with her, and o nsidered her one of the finest girls he ever met. Misses Boyer and Berry, also of our teaching force knew her well, and Miss Lessie Bates also remembers her quite well.
