Another Man is Killed at Monon.
Claude Rogers, A Switchman Killed By The Cars. Claude Rogers, a switchman in the yards at Monon met with a terrible death about 3 o’clock Thursday afternoon, whilst uncoupling from the rear end of train No, 6 due here at 3.30 the oar belonging to the Ten Nights in a Bar Room company which showed there that night. The train had come to a stop a short distance beyond the stand pipe where the engines usually take water. Rogers was in between the coaches when the engineer suddenly began backing his engine towards the stand pipe. The sudden jam of the train as it moved backward caused the switchman to lose his footing and as he stumbled about in a vain attempt to get from between the cars, his bead caught between a large pin which protruded out from the end of the coaon belonging to the show company, and the other car. The pin entered the right side of his head just above the cheek bone and passed through the skull just at the base of the brain Several lady passengers on the train almost fainted at the horrible sight. He was carried into a oar bouse near the depot where be died in about an hour without regaining oonciousness. Rogers was a young unmarried man about 22 years of age. He was industrious good natured and was a general favorite among the railroad men at Monon. He made bis home with his pirents both of whom reside at that place.
