The Winter Solstice.
Today Dec. 22nd the date of the wiuter solstioe, when the sun reaches its furthest deolination southward, and stands vertically over the tropic of Capricorn. It will stand in that position several days, and then resume its slow but sure journey north ward. It is the period of the shortest days and longest nights, though today is no worse in that respect than for a week past nor fora weekjto oome, there being that long a time in which their is practically no ohange in there relative length, of day and night. Winter also begins today, but in a wholly astronomically sense. As for actual winter, it began hire four weeks ago, and has been doingjbueiness with us pretty regularly ever sines.
