Death of An Aged Early Settler.
The Topeka, Kane,, Daily Herald of Dei. 7th, mentions the death and faneral of Mrs. Martha Long Wright, widow of Hon. Ezra Wright, a once very well known and prominent resident of Rensselaer. She died at Topeka Saturday Deo. sth, at the home of her daughter Mrs. T. and her faneral was held on the Monday following. Had she lived until Deo. 10th, she would have reached the very advanced age of 91 years. . She was born near Pittsburg, Ps., in 1812, married Ezra Wright in 1832, and moved with him to Jasper count? in 1842. Here Mr. Wright started a tannery of considerable size, on a farm northwest of town, now, or recently, belonging to W. H.- Churchill or his sons. Later he moved into Rensselaer and filled the office of county treasurer. Still later he was a state senator, and in 1866 was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination for. oounty auditor- In 1867 they removed to Riohfleld in southern Illinois;. Bince the spring of 1885 she has made her home with Mrs. Lyon, the only surviving one of eight ohildren.
