May Become the Regimental Band.
Prof. W. H. Weaver recently received a letter from Prof. Theodore Miller of South Bend, leader 1 of the 3rd regimental band stating that the band there is now out of Commission, and that the new .band here has an excellent chance of taking their place providing they show the necessary progress along the musical line before the next regular encampment., Prof. Miller expects to come to Rensselaer in the near future and if he finds everything satisfactory he has promised to do all in his power towards securing for our new organization the honored title of the 3rd Regimental Band. Prof. Weaver who is now instructing the boys, gave them a very interesting talk last night at the Armory. He showed ihem what great possibilities were ahead of them providing they put forth the necessary effort, and what a great reward, the title of 3rd Regimental Band, would be to them providing their efforts proved successful. The boys are all displaying the greatest interest in the matter, and have all pledged themselves to work faithfully until success is theirs. If they keep up the spirit they are displaying at the present time, they are practically certain before many months to be the recognized musical organization of the 3rd Indiana Regiment. There are substantial advantages in being a regimental band as well as honor. For instance they would draw pay, not only for attending encampments but also for time devoted to practice.
