Tuesday’s Elections.
Tuesday’s elections went abopt as they might have been expected to go, only a little more eo. From a political point of view the result is not sifch as to be rated much of a victory either way but the advantage is no doubt with the Republicans. Especially because of their sweeping victory in Ohio, whereby Herrick is e’ected gover nor over Johnson by 100,000 majority, and the state legislature is Republican by 100 majority; This of course ensures the reelection of Senator Hanna. lowa also is stronger than ever in line, Cummins being e’ected by 50,000 majority. In New York City the result is lamentab'e, because it returns the city to the infamous control of Tammany. McClellan defeated Low, for mayor by 70,000 majority It was purely a local fight of the powers of graft against decent honest goverment, and graft won the day.
