IT WAS A GOOD GAME Bit tk Ufayette Turn Wai No Match tor tie Kcasselaer Players. The score 23 to 0 only partially telb the tale of the crushing defeat administered to the Central Ufayette High School team last Saturday afternoon by the husky Rihaselaer lads who so splendidly fought loir the glory of their ininstitotion and for the old red and blAbk, Which has always .been opr emblem of triumph. It waa truly a great game, marted only by the continuous fault-find-ing of one Arnold, the kicker, coqch of the Lafayette team, whose rotten decisions and persistent attempts to stir up trouble displayed his ignorance rather than knowledge of the game. We wish to say however in behalf of the Lafayette High School boys themselves that they are a gentlemanly lot of players and we are glad to state that not one of them upheld their coach in tl e manner in which he acted here last Saturday, When both teams lined up on the field it could be easily seen that they were about evenly matched in regard toweght, Lafayette probably haring a slight advantage- Caps Sheets won the toss for RenwWftwr and chose the kick ejf; Lafayette' defending the West goaf; • TSWeir Melted to Lafayette nho only advanced a few yards. Lafhyeftfc* Hton played their backs thrpogh Htjm lLpe for tCveraf good* gains advancing JkH" W ot 20 yards up the field. Thtfe right Half-back shortly afterward made a very pretty run by circling our right end for 40 yards, which was the only chance Lafayette bad of scoring daring the whole game. The boys from the banks of the Wabash fumbled on the next play and Rensselaer took possession of )all on their own 36 yard line After a few plays, the re-ult of the game soon became evident to the spectators. Tearing through their opponent’s line like madinen, Parcels, Barkley and McGregor carried the ball steadily down the field, 10 and 15 yards at a clip and before the baffled Lafayette boys could wake up Barkley had crossed the goal ine for the first touch-down. He kicked goal Hnd the score stood 6to 0. Time was called shortly afterward and the score for the first half remained nnchanged. The next half saw our boys go n with a more determined spirit. They simply ran all over their opponents, demoralizing them completely by tearing through their line for 5 and 10 yards at nearly every attempt Three touch-downs were made in this half, one by by Barkley and two by McGregor. The two goal kicks added to this made the final score 23 to 0. One of the features of tbe game was the blocked J print by tackle Daniels whb tore through tbe Lafayette line and nabbed tbe ball just as the full back was in the act of punting! if f About two minutes before time was called Coa<Ti Arnold attempted to penalize tbe Renseekaer boys by claiming that general outsiders wereeoaching on tbe side lines; this however being onto! ike bounds of reason. Referee Jennings Wright would not allow it. A dispute 1 1 en arose which finally ended in the referee bringing the game to a close and declaring the Rensselaer High School winners 23 to 0.
