The first anti-slavery society was organized in New York City. . Samuel Adams, leader in the American revolution and signer of the declaration of independence, died in Boston at the age of 81 years. The United States warships Constitution and Nautilus anchored in the hay of Tangiers, fired several cannon as a warning to the Emperor of Morocco, apd secured the release of the American consul and an American brig; Seventy-five Years Ago. The campaign scheme of taking straw votes was started by American politicians, who polled every public meeting to show the relative popularity of President John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson. The architect of the capitol at Washington reported that $1,746,718 had been spent to that date in its construction. General Andrew Jackson was called on by friends of President John Quincy Adams to explain his alleged dishonesty in the Chickasaw Indian treaty. A Stage coach with two decks, capable of carrying dirty passengers, and with a tender for baggage, was completed for the Toad between Bordentown, N.J., and Washington.

One hundred Wisconsin and Michigan cavalrymen who were escorting General Blunt through the Cherokee reservation were attacked by 600 rebej guerillas under Quantrell, who killed fifty outright and murdered the wounded and members of the regimental band, whom they took prisoners. General Joseph Wheeler’s rebel cavalry were attacked by General George Crook’s force neaT Farmington, Tenn., which cut them In two, captured 200 prisoners and 1,000 small arms, and sent the remainder retreating southward. A second supply train with 000 men, bound for General Roeecrans’ besieged army in Chattanooga, was captured at McMinnville, Tenn., by rebel cavalry under General Joseph Wheeler.
