The Pan Handle Railroad Cjmpany has given notice of intention „to appeal to the Supreme Court, in the Reed case, in whioh a judgment was given against the company for $2500. One ofjthe jurors in the case tells us that verdict was sort of an average of the different views of the jurors. Some of them favoring a verdict of only a few dollars, and others way up to shoot the full amount sued for, SIO,OOO. The juror says that none of them believed that the old man was caught by the foot in the rails, or he would have been mangled worse, but that he simply got ooDfused, and unable to save himself. 'the beneficiaries of this judgment, if it is ever collected, will be the three grand children who lived witls Mr. Reed, namely three orphan girls named Casey, now 18, 16 and 14 years old, respectively. 1 and all of whom now live in different families in Rensselaer, two going to sohool and the elder working in Miss Meyer’s millinery store. They are the beneficiaries of the verdiot because they were the only persons financially injured by bis depth. From the money point of view, in faot, his own sons were behefitted by his death as they had bought the bulk of his land on a life annuity of S7OO whioh they paid him, and this payment of oourse ceased when his death oooured. His orphan grand-daughters, who lived with him, depended mainly upon this annuity for their support hence the injury to them by the old gentleman’s death.
