Cur schools opened last Monday, Oct. sth. At this writing the teachers are not known. Let there be a full attendance. J Tolin & Hillis lately received two car loads of fine stock cattle from th 4 U § Yards at Indianapolis, Mrs. John Casey is visiting her daughter Mrs. Chas, Holly, at Morocco for a couple of weeks Chas. Bro’ ardt has moved- his famdy here from Monterey, Ind. J. C. Thompson attended the postmaster’s .-convention at Michigan City la t week. Mrs. Hall ha’ made some needed repairs on her property. Jack K.’gßt has just built himself a new barn. Mrs. Cottingham and son Willie have returned home after visiting her mother Mrs. A. J. Nel on and other relatives for a few days at Brookston. Bu zz Hooper is build’ng a hous in the west part of town. He will occupy it himself when completed. Col. Cobel, the veteran drayman has retir d from the business and sold his outfit to Francis Burns, wl.o will continue the business hereafter. Mr. Gobel wi.l move to the country and try farm 1 fe for a while. Mrs. Mike Shehan and children of Lafayette are visiting her parents Ike Kiffht and w fe and other relstives. Four cars of dredge machinery have been received and work will soon b j gm on he ditch with a large force of men. The C. & E. I Ry. is doing a rush ing freight and coal business th.se days and are running several extrn trains daily, in addition to their regular trains, Owing to the late frosts the pickle business has come to an end for this year, Some 4,300 bushels were received here, which is a good show, ing for the first year, considering the lateness of planting and the damage done to the crop by the heavy hail storm of a tew weeks ago. The work of barreling and shipping the pickles to various cities will begin soon. C. L. Eggleston, of New Orleans visited relatives, the Blairs here for a few days last week, returning last Sunday, accompanied by his wife who has been v siting relatives for the past two month=.
