Novel Physiological Experiment. A London music hall artist named Allard, well known to the profession for long-distance feats of pedestrlanIsm, started from Kennington on Nov. 8, 1900, to walk to Portsmouth, carrying hand an ordinary walnut instead of a running cork. He got nearly as far as Godaiming and abandoned the journey, not because he was “used op” in the ordinary sense of the word, but because he could no longer hold the wahiut in each hand. By keeping the fingers clenched tightly ( round tbp walnuts for so long they became numb and useless, and his, arms were in an almost similar condl-j tlon. He says that had he been allowed even to “change hands” with the' walnuts the result might have been dis-, ferent, but this was contrary to the conditions of the Out df His Jurisdiction.
