A Wreck Friday.
Friday afternoon the north bound Louisville mail train due here at 3:30 p. in., met vpitb rather a serious acoident at Crawfordsville Junotion, about a half-mile south of Crawfordsyille. The train was standing at the J unction, waiting for the signal to start, when a Vandalia coal' traip, running at rate of six or seven miles an hour ran into it turning over the smoking oar and ladies’ ooaoh. Both oars were badly wrecked but nobody very seriously injured, other than numerous pretty severe outs and bruises.
The wreok Lafayjette was sent down but did not succeed a in olearing the track for several hours and it was 11:30 p. m. before the belated train finally reaohed here, just eight hours late. Our townsman Harry Eurrie, attorney for the Monon, was on the train at the time of accident but th& car he was in was not even jolted. He says there was great exoitement for a time especially among the.ladie*
The oause of the accident is supposed to have been a defective air brake on the Vandalia engine which would not allow the engineer to stop his train in time to prevent the collision. The Vandalia railroad will be entirely responsible for the aooi. dent and the Monon will receive payment in full for ail damages sustained.
