Had A Right Hard Frost
But Not Hard Enough To Do Much Damage.^ 'k —— The long looked for and much feared September frost oame Thursday night, or rather this, Friday morning. The night was a ill and clear, and so oold that e irly this morning frost was to be ■ »en m every' direction, and on rjofs, dry grass and low plaoes, it remained until 7 o’clock. A few persons saw tbin*fpe on prater left standing oat doonf. Great fears were entertained that the frost was’severe enough to materially dam'age the corn orop, but after the sun came out and the frost melted away, it became apparent that the damage was very slight, indeed, Only late corn on low places is hurt at all and that very little. Indeed many farmers say the frost will help their corn, by hurryiDg up the ripening process.
It was specially feared that the norn in the Gifford region would suffer great damages, but reliable reports from various point* there, show that the damage there is also very slightX As • warinlr weather is now scheduled byjtbe weather bureau, it is quite epfe to conolude that the frost danger is passed for some time, .and that Jasper oounty’s big corn orop is practically safe. The lowest temperature reached here, by the JJ. !S. thermometer was 35 degrees.
