The Clock Runs Down.

At 7 o’clock a. m. on Saturday Aug. 22nd, E. D, Rhoades started | an eight day clock in the window jof bia hardware 'Store, and thereafter on every ten cent eaeh purj chase he allowed one guess as to the time the olook would stop, offering three good prizes, such as a carving set, and a chafing dish, as prizes, for the nearest gaesses. Some 1100 gaesses were made in all. The olook kept pounding away until 3 55$ this Friday morning, and then stopped. On examination it was found that two parties had eaoh guessed within a half minute of the right time. W A. Huff, of Rensael(hr guessed 3.55 a. m. and Ed Southerland, of Fair Oaks, gnessed 356 a. m. Each of these bought a stove the the day before and each had 300 or 400 guesses. For eeoond plaoe they were tied again at even 4a. m. and Alfred Randle also made the same gnese. The three lnoky men will be consol ted before method of awarding the prizes among them is daj oided upon.
