A Tramp and His Captor.
Up, In the' Bronx the other day a man was seen dragging a tramp along the highway by the coat collar and asking pedestrians whom he met where he could find a patrolman. “What’s the matter?” asked one of those questioned. “This fellow has stolen 10 cents from me,” was the answer. “What are you going to do about It?” t ' “Give him In charge and have him summer at the Island.” . “Isn’t that pretty small potatoes for the sake of 10 cents?” the self-appoint-ed policeman was asked. “It may be, but I’m looking at the principle of the thing, you see.” The tramp was all this time pleading his Innocence. Finally the man who had protested, offered the captor 25. cents if he would let his prisoner go. The offer was accepted and the tramp took to Ills heels. Afterward it was learned that tramp and captor were “pals” and worked the game on all sympathizing philanthropists who came their way.
