A Case From Fair Oaks.
Constable Vick went to Fair Oaks Thursday evening and arrested George Lambert the “Villiage Blaoksmith” of that town. He was charged with assault and battery on Mrs. Edward V. Tolley. It seems by tho story that some time ago Lambert sold or oontraoted to sell to Mr. Tolley three wagon wheels, but Lambert to keep the wheels until he saw the oolor of Tolley’s ooin. He loaned Tolley the wheeld, however to haul some hay, but Tolley did not return the wheels. Lambert went after them, in Tolley’s absence and was taking them away, when Mrs. Tolley interferred, and tried to prevent him. Both got hold of the wheels and it was “pull Dick and pull devil” for awhile, in proverbial language. Mrs. Tolley got a side-wipe in the ribs and olaiming that Lambert pushed her in a “rude, angry and insolent manner,” and hence the arrest. At the trial she admitted that while the two were at close quarters contending for the wheels, Mr. Lambert’s elbow bright have given her the dig in the short ribs, by an accidental baok motion, without any intention or prepense of malioe on his part. On this view of the case, he was aoquitted. Squire Troxell issued the warrant and tried the case.
