The City Council.

Another resolution asked for by' S P. Thompson, President ofMbe* pubiio library board in reference" to levying a tax to support the' library, was laid on the table until tie next regular meeting. One or two euoh resolutions have already been placed on the reoords. Regarding the proposed improvement of Washington, Diviniou and Main streets, from Cullen street to the depot, a petition was presented signed by most of the property owners, asking that inof a brick street a macadam street be ordered. This was accordingly done. The resolution as adopted provides for a macadam street the full width for one block <>n Washington street, from CulJen to Weston. Thereat of the way on Washington, Division and Main it is 40 feet wide. Cement • curbs are to be built the whole die* tauce. Tbe improvement is to exieod clear to the north corporation line, on Main street. J >ba Makeever, was given a permit for a briok building on the norrb side of his ho'el for a sample room. Dr. W. W. Hartsell petitioned Lr an a’ley through block 16, in a northwest and southeast direction, tbe same blook in whioh the Methodist and Baptist churches and tbe Kreslerfeed barn are located. C. J. Dean, R. B. Harris and Hiram Day were appointed a committee to view and report upon the ronte of the proposed alley. An ordinance was introduced and adopted to legalize the purchase of the new engine and other eqnipment for the light and water station. The ordinanoe provides that not to exoeed $3,500 be expended for the engine, and $4,000 for other equipments suoh as a new dynamo, line shafts, wires ►to.; or $7,500 in all. On petition of property owners, Division street is to be narrowed to 60 feet, from Washington street to its south end, and a 10 inch sewer laid along its center. City orders not paid for want of funds are to draW 6 per cent interest from date of protest. The marshal was ordered to impair the grade on Cullen st et, where it oroeses Makemself st- «/er. Bome 27 claims were passed up on and allowed.
