The City Council
A Brick Street Ordered From Makeever House to Depot. Monday night was regular meet, ing night of the City Counoil. Thetr moat important work was voting in favor of making a brick paved {street from the Makeever House to the depot. It was voted to make the pavement 40 feet wide, with a oement ourb. The route is on Washington street, from the east side of Cullen street, at the Makeever House to Division street, then Division to Main, and on Main to Walnut, whioh is the first east and west street north of the railroad. Thus the improvement would take in the business houses north of the railroad. The oity attorney was ordered to prepare an ordinance in acoordanoe With the resolution. Two of the Councilman. Wood and Parks, voted against ordering the brick street at this time. The other four voted for it. The action was taken without any previous consultation with proparty owners to ascertain their wishes in the mitter, and whethsr they will staad for it remains to be seen. J. 0. Thravles tendered his resignation as oity engineer, and H. L. Gamble was appointed in his stead. The treasurer’s report shows the following funds on hand. Corporation fund $13.12. Road fund,
$1635.72. Water fund $929.06 The light fund is overdrawn $33.51. On petition of Smith Newell and others, oement sidewalks were ordered on both aides of Harrison street, .from Cullen to Division, and on the north side of Pine, whioh abuts on Harrison, on to toe east side of the corporation line. There will be over half a mile of walk in this one order. Another sidewalk order was for two blocks, on the south side of Plum street from Franklin to Soott. Some 87 miscellaneous claims were aoted upon and allowed. i
