Lowell, Ind , July 29—Leae than two years ago Ernest £. Woodcock came here from Chicago, and took ohargeof the Lowell Souvenir, a newspaper that talks right oat in meeting. Now he is oity olerk and city treasurer of the Jown of Lowell, collector and purchasing agent for the water-works and electiic light plant, jnstioe of the peaoe for the township and notary public. When he is not editing be is oolleoting water and light rents, trying oivil or criminal cases, performing marriagep, acknowledging legal instruments or aeeisting the tcwn marshal in keeping order or compelling the. saloon keepers to take out-their licenses. In his newspaper he announces that “We understand that City Clerk Woodcock has-” or, “we are told that City Clerk Wbodoook will pay the interest on the bonds this week.” A neatly-written paragraph tells the readers of the Souvenir that “Jnstioe Woodcock, on Tuesday, performed the marriage ceremony for “so and so,” and another liner announcea that “E. E. Woodoock, notary public, acknowledged a number of transfers this week>” In caustio English he tells some of the people that they ought not to "find fault with the city clerk and the oity marshal because they compelled a a gang of skin gamblers from Hammond to close down their games,” It goes without Buying that all the legal printing of the town is done by the Souvenir. Editor Woodcock prints it and presents the bill to City Clerk Woodoock who approves it, draws an order on City Treasurer Woodoock, who promptly pays it over to editor Woodcock, all without leaving his seat. And he got all these jobs against four candidates on the Republican tioket.

Mr. Woodcook was born irr Rushville, and he learned his trade on tbe Rushville Republican. He was oonneoted with the printing department of The Indianapolis Nows for several years, bat before he came to this place to this place he worked in various Chicago print shops.
