Gain in G. A. R. Membership
The Indiana division of she G. A, R. has 411 more members than it had last January. This is shown in Adjutant General J. M. Neely’s semi-annual report to commander-in-chief of the G. A. R., Thomas J. Stewart, of Philadelphi. The argest gain was made by the Kokomo post, which has 323 members, The increase advanoes the Kokomo post from the fourth largest in the date to the second plaoe. The G, H. Thomas post of Indianapolis is the largest post in the state, with 416 members, Outside of the Kokomo increase most of the membership gain sinoe the first of the year is shown by the posts in the small towns in all parts of the state. The large increase was brought about by the adjutant general sending out thousand of circulars in February to old soldiers all over the state who were known not to belong to the G. A. R. The semi-annual report shows the financial condition of the department to be good, a bahtnde fund of $40,503 being reported. One hundred and ninetysix members of the G. A. R. died during the past six months, More than $1,500 has been expended in relief by the division during the past six months.
