TO FIGHT CONSUMPTION.

Health Board Will Try to Stamp Ou the Disease. The State Board of Health is preparing for a fight against consumption iu Indiana. The last legislature increased the appro, print ion of the board by $4,000, and instead of spending this sum in different ways it will be concentrated on consumption.

| The report of the board for June I shows 2,265 deaths, of 4vhioh 346 I were due to consumption. Of these 145 were males and 241 females, and 216, or 62 4 per oent. were between the ages of sixteen I and forty years, the years of great, est usefulness. The married | victims of tbe disease numbered j twenty seven men and eighty-four women. This makes 111 homes rendered fathei less or motherless. The number of ohildren under twelve years of age made orphans by the disease was 222. The $4,000 will beoome available this .fall. The plans of the board are: First, to take a census of all houses where there is oon-

sumption throughout the state and 1 then to send circulars of instructions outlining treatment. The board expeot to have instructions, showing that consumption is not iuonrablo, in all the schools of tbe oities and towns in Indiana next years. “What we want to do,” says Dr. J. N. Harly, secretary of tbe board,'is to let everybody know, that consumption is unnecessary, and that lives and money can be saved to families in the State by an intelligent treatment.” The June bulletin of the board shows that the death rate for the month tor the state was a basis of 10.9 per thousand; for the cities on the basis of 14.3; of the country on the baeis of 9,2.
