Will Not Affect Local Routes.

Th#-postoffice department, with a view to reducing expenses and terminating the mail service on unprofitable rural routes, is considering the advisability of discontinuing all on whioh there are not at least 100 families and that do not now show the handling of at least 3,000 pieoes of mail matter per month. Should an order to this effect be issued it would.not affect either of the two rural routes delivered from the Rensselaer postoffioe, But Route No. 2, delivered by Elias Hammertou would come pretty near the danger line, pn the number of pieces handled, which is now about 3,400 per month. If the patrons of the route were to get soared a little, at the prospect of losing it, they oould very materially increase its business by mailing more of their letters on it instead of at Rensselaer and other post-offices. The number of families on both routes is well over 125, instead of the 100 required.
