The Purpose of Law.

Yon cannot make men moral by law. Baris green doesn’t make potatoes grow, but kills the vermin that prevent them from growing. Law does not stop crime, bat when the men behind the law aie incorruptible the evil is lessened. Law is not intended to make men better, but to secure justice. If I buy a bill of goods of your merchant and refuse to pay for it he oan sue and foroe me to pay. That suit would not make me more honest, but itseoures justice. Law is to proteot every man, woman and boy. You oannot reform by law; that work is for the gospel and the home. But law protects the weak and seoures justice.—The Amerioan Issue. J. N.
