FRIDAY. How do you like the auto parade? Mrs. John Riohmond of the north part of town is quite siok. Miss Mary Meyer has returned from a few days’ visit at Ohioago. Who said the Automobiles would be here for dinner? August Rosenbaum and daughter are visiting in Hammond, E. L. Clark is in Lafayette today on business. r Mr. and Mrs. T. J. MoOoy and * Mr. and Mrs. D. G. Warner went to the river for a week’s stay. Dr. H- J. Kannal oame down from the Ohioago hospital last night, for a day or two. * Walter Porter, Bion Zimmerman and George Goff ate spending the day at the Kankakee. Simon Thompson and son Simcn Jr. are in Lafayette today attending Ringling’s oirous. Rev. Aspy, of Anderson, will fill his regular appointment here at the First Baptist churoh, Sunday morning and evening. Mrs. A. G. Soott, of five miles south of town, is recovering from a severe attack of nephritis complications. Mr. and Mrs. Donaldson, of Terre Haute, are here for a few days’ visit with their daughter, Mrs. Jadie Martindale. Mr. Claud Naveran, of Ooela Fla , oame this morning to spend a few weeks with his relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Jos. Halligan. Mrs. A. L. Linn, of Attica, is visiting her daughter, Mrs, Wm, H. Parkison. She will stay about a month.
Mrs. J. Dobbins, of Monon, returned home yesterday after a week’s visit with her neice, Mrs. Geo. Mustard. Mrs. 'Alfred Colßns went to Naperville, 111., last night called there by the serious siokness of her son, Ray. Mr. and Mrs. Hallard Flynn, of Chesterton oame this afternoon for a visit with the former’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Flynn. This is Hallard’s first visit home for a year. , There was a nice little danoe at the Armory in the new K. of P. building, last night. There were about twenty five couples present and enjoyed the evening. Music was furnished by Lafayatte parties. The danoe was gotten up by Taylor MoCay. Mrs. L. B. Hains. of St. Louis, oame last night to assist Miss Sanford in the religious revival now in progress at the M. E. church. SATURDAY. Dr. H. J. Kannal returned to Chicago again this morning. Miss Alioe Bates went to La* doga, Ind., today, for a two weeks’ visit with relatives. The carpet for thq new K. of P. Lodge hall came yesterday and is entirely satisfactory. Mrs. G. 0. Cooper, of Decatur, who has been visiting the family of Chas. Platt, returned home today. $63.60 for the round trip to San Franoisoo and Los Angeles, Cal., July Ist to 10th, final limit Aug. 31st. Company M. militia, will go to Indianapolis to the state encampment of the state guard on July 26th. Born to Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Weidman, on the Arnold farm, 6 miles north of town, Friday. June 26tb a son. Mrs. John White of Franoesville who has been visiting her nephew Bruoe White and family, returned home today.
Mrs. B. G. Oglesby and children of Medaryville oame last evening for an extended visit with her parents here. Mrs. S. B. Hoffman and her mother Mrs. W. W. Bussel went to Monon today, the latter remaining several days. Perry Gwin who has been siok for the past five weeks with rheumatic fever is now slowly improving, bat still oonfined to his bed. Spencer Viok of Chioago, oame down today to visit his parents 0. H. Yiok and wife, and his brother Christie, who is siok with remittent fever.
Mrs. Martha Donnelly and daughter, Mrs, Luoy Walters, returned today from a two weeks’ visit with the former’s daughter, Mrs. Keiper, at Plymout, Ind. It has developed that the two men who were killed at LaCrosse last week were residents of Benton county, and both were hard working men though poor and were well known in Fowler. Brook voted to issue $12,000 in bonds to build a new school house by the vote of 112 forjto 9 against. A stranger visitiqg that town could pick out those nine mossbacks without difficulty. A preaoher in Nashville, Ind., is reported to deliver his strongest sermons while asleep. Not so up this way. While our preaohers are preaching their strongest sermons some of their flock are sleeping their soundest. The case of Joel F. Spriggs vs the State of Indiana, on the relation of tne Board of Commissioners of Jasper county, which was taken to Supreme oourt on a petition for re-hearing, has been settled and the suit called off.
Charles W. Gray president of the Chicago Automobile Club left Chicago yesterday morning and will try to overtake the olub on its way to the Mammoth Cave. With him are his wife, two sons and his ohauffeur. They should pass through here some time today. Mr. D. F, Lynch traveling representative of the Great Wallace Circus was in town today, making contracts and arrangement for their exhibition here on the 25th. Himself and wife drove in overland from Goodland last. Automobiles have been banished from the State Fair Grounds. The managers say that automobiles are all right in their plaoe -but their place is not £tnong blcoded
horses. It frightens them so they are off their appetite and almost unmanageable. Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Robinson arrived from Kirksville, Mo., last night, where they have just finished a three years oourse in the Amerioan School of Osteopathy, and graduated from the same. They have not decided exactly where they will locate permanently, but think it will be some place in the state of Pennsylvania. Two fellows from Indianapolis who *oame in with a looomobile last night and stayed at the Makeover hotel. This morning they pulled out for Ohioago, and expect to go through today. They oome from Indianapolis that day and met the automobile that went through Rensselaer late yesterday and between here and Remington stock in the sand. They had to get a team to pull them out-

Mrs. Bernie Maloy, of Chicago, oame Saturday for a short visit with her sister, Mrs. Mary Drake. The Monon announces that the excursion to Chicago and return at $1.25 on July sth, has been oalled off. Sam Soott of Lakin, Canada, returned home today after an extended visit with his brother Wash Soott and other relatives. 0. P. Robinson, who has been doing elevator work at Inwood, Ind. for the past three or four weeks, .returned home Saturday, Miss Mary Porter, who is attending the Bryan-Stratton Com. meroial school, in Chicago* oame home Saturday evening to’spend a vacation of a week. The semi-annual convention of the County Superintendents’ Btate Association will be held in Indianapolis Monday and Tuesday of this week. Comrade Charles up the contract for the carrying of the Aix star route mail, whioh he will begin carrying next Wednesday. A letter from Mrs. Geo. Healy, at Washington, states that poison from whioh George had apparently recovered is now coming back on him but as to how bad it will be is uncertain. J. E. Mainee & Co., a firm composed of good reliable men of Rensselaer have just purchased the furniture stook of the late bankrupt E. J. Hurley. They will open up the store for business within a short time. Mrs. Lydia English, of Yorktown, Canada, who has been visiting Mrs. James Randle and otjier relatives went to Hammond today tor a few days visit before returning to her home. Dr. J. J. Schmidt and wife of Danville, 111., Dr. D. C. Hiushaw and wife of Ridgefarm, 111., Dr. Jesse Francis and wife of Charles-
town, 111., are visiting at T. H. Robinson’s for a few days, MiSB Lena Washburn, went to Ohiosgo Saturday, and from there will start with her sister, Miss Mary, and the Austin family, Tuesday on their long foreign trip, Dr. and Mrs. 8. C. Robinson and Albert Overton have returned to Rensselaer, after completing a two years course in Osteopathy at Kirksville, Mo. Dr. Albert Overton having stopped at Lake Geneva Wie. aa a delegate to the annual Y. M. C. A. conference. Mr. and Mrs. James Perry, o Chioago oame Saturday and were the guests of Mr. and Mrs.j Oren Parker. Mr. Perry, who is employed in the Marshall, Field Wholesale house, returned home this morning but his wife will remain a few days and visit. Mrs. T. A. Hall requests all the ohildren of the four primary classes of the Christian Sunday school, to meet at her home at 10 a. m. on Tuesday, and bring their lunches with them, to go to a pionio dinner, given in honor of her son James’ sixth birthday.
Goodland is now with bat one paper again, Mr. Shephard bought out Mr. Henderaon’a interest in The, Star, and then formed a partnership with Mr. Kitt, of the Herald. The Starr was a rattling good paper while it lasted but the town is to small to support two papers. Miss Bertha Sanford the deaooness evangelist who was with us in the winter and who is holding a aeries of meeting at Rensselaer now, will be with us again next Wednesday. She will speak and sing at the Methodist ohuroh on that evening. The public is invited to .hear her. —Remington Press. The ladies Aid Sooiety of the Christian ohuroh will meet on Wednesday afteruoon at the home of Frank Parker, in the west part of town. They are requested to, bring baskets with something to eat therein and lunch will be spread on the lawn in the evening to whioh the gentlemen of the ohuroh are invited.
