The City Council.
The City Counoil held a regular meeting Mon. night with a full at* tendance present. A number of claims were allowed. A. L. Willis made a deed to the oity of a strip of ground off the north end of his residence lot, of a width sufficient to allow Susan street to be straightened. In return the city pays for the side walk and road improvement aoross thus out cff< As the lot now is it comes almost to a point and there would be no walk or improvement? necessary. The oity engineer made hie report of the finishing of the side walk along the west side of Mary E. Thompson’s lots on Milroy street ordered and oontraoted for by the town last fall. There was 1,781 square feet in this walk and cost sl7l 80. Mrs. B. E Sharp and others presented a petition for a sewer on Vine street, and Ed. Hollin and others a remonstrance against it. Both petition and remonstrance were referred to the sewer committee. A vote was taken with regard to ohanging the size of the Cedar street sewer from ten to an eight inoh, which was carried, and the oontract ordered reduced accordingly. B. F. Ferguson was appointed a member of the appraising committee for appraising property of the Jasper County Library. A resolution was passed in regard to the Carnegie Library which was in effeot that whenever the library committee should have procured a suitable site for the library building. then the oouncil would authorize the raising of SI,OOO for the support and maintanence thereof. A. L. Branch was awarded the oontract for hauling the coal from the depot to the light plant for the ensuing year at the rate 20 cents per ton. The board aooepted his offer of S2O whioh was to come out of this contraot, provided he was awarded if, to apply on the improvement of Clark street. Mr. Branch also asked permission to ereot a frame building on Cornelia street at his coal yard, to be oovered with iron, which was granted. The report of the fire department showed a balanoe on hand in the disability fund to be $278 37 In the general fund a balanoe of $6 50. S. P. Thompson tendered the board a deed for the river bed for * the Jasper County Drainage Association, which was taken under consideration.
