Successful Drainage Work.
John Hack, of Lowell, was in town Wednesday enroute to Knox. Mr. Hack said that he has built a dredge on section 33, range 8 and will construct a lateral ditch to the Brown ditch, which will empty into the river at Jerry Island, and from that point the dredge will return to the head of Brown ditch - and thence down the Brown ditoh, widening and deepening it to the junction Cf the Brown and Singleton ditches on Section 29, at Sugar Grove, Mr. Hack now haß a dredge at work at West Creek widening and deepening the same, When the work on West Creek is completed the Brown and Singleton ditches will have two outlets to the river from their junctions, whioh combined will form an outlet over one hundred and fifty feet wide. The above improvements are filling the long needed wants to improve these valuable traots of land. The difficulty heretofore in the ditching been that there was not sufficient outlet for the water carried down by the ditches until the above outlets were constructed. As a result of the cleaning out and widening the Singleton ditoh and the enlargements of its outlet, lands adjoining it whioh were never known to be dry are today fit for oorn planting.—From Bhelby Department, Times-Re-view.
