Judge Hammond Spoke Out.
Oar former townsman, Jo dge E. P. Hammond is the chief counsel for Frederick Chase in the great legal battle now going on at Lafayette and elsewhere for the possession of Moses Fowler Chase and his big wealth. The Judge was never baokward in speaking bis mind freely, when he thinks the oocasion justifies it. Thus the other day, when the attorneys for the Dukmes were making another of their everlasting moves for delay, claiming that they wanted to take depositions in Paris. Hammond got his dander up, and shaking his fist at them he said: “These gentlemen are not here in the interests of Moses Fowler Chase, as they pretend, but are bending every effort in behalf of that miserable wretch, Mrs. Dnhme who for tbjee years kept the boy in a dungeon for the sole purpose •of taking his life, and they know it!” |t pretty nearly took the breath away from the Duhme crowd, bnt it seemed to meet the popular approval. Moreover Judge DeHart refused the request for more delay.
