Harvard College lias reduced its course for the arts degree to three years. The forthcoming report of the Bureau of Education will contain some interesting information concerning the increase in the number of women teachers in the United Stater. Twenty Tears ago 42.8 per cent of all the teachers in. this country were men. This lias gradually been reduced to 28.8 in. 1001. In the Southern States, however, the men still have the advantage. In West Virginia, for example, the proportion of men teachers is still 00 per cent, in Tennessee 50 per cent, in Arkansas 55 per cent and in New Mexico 54 per cent of the schools are taught by men. Indinna is another State in wingh the men teachers abound, as they still hold 45 per cent of the,, •chools. There lias been however, for thirty years ago they had GO per cent of them.
The lowest percentage of men teachers is in Massiclni'a’tts, where they have only 8.1) per cent of the schools. In the other New England States the proportion ia about the same.
