A Great Success
The Spy of Gettysburg By A Rensselaer Company. The Spy of Gettysburg given night by a home company, under the management of Capt. £, R. C. Golliday, a veteran of the “ civil war, and an experienced and very able trainer and manager was a very gratifying success. The * attendance also was excellent considering that the weather was quite unfavorable, and that a second opportunity was to be given to see the performance tonight. v | It is no exaggeration to say that every character in the cast was well rendered, and several of them excellently well. The leading and most difficult role is that of Harry Lenox, the Union spy. The part requires the Tractor to appear in various disguises and assumed characters, and finally as a prisoner among the harrowing scenes o‘s Andersonville. Grant, a natural born actor took this part, and was but little \_ishort of perfection. x True Woodworth, an odd duck in Lee’s army, was good; so also was John Carr, a lank Yank of brave blood. Bruce Hardy was good as an old Mexican vet, and Jim George a fine Coon, 4 “fraid of nuthin, you bet.” Will Parkison was heroic as a brave Rebel lad, and Cap Golliday was good though his character was bad. Walter Hopkins helped the villain, and helped him well too; while Bob Lefler, a Yank officer, was a strong man and true Ed Catt a slick suitor for fair Carrie’s hand, and little ’‘Doc” Horton drummed ■ to beat the whole band. Rufo Knox wdfre the stars of brave Gen Meade, and the Knox he gave n Rebs were good ones, indeed. As 'V the true hearted heroine, Maude Healey was fine, and Doris Porter, ' her cousin, did well in that line. Madge Bea m, the war widow, was gracioufHmd gay; and True George, “Mrs. Mulvey” always had her A own way. Juno Kannal, her daughter, to the flag ever true, and Ethel Huff who presents one did their parts finely too. Floss Starr, Myra Watson and small Mary Wright, just had to look pretty and they did it ’bout right. And they did the whole thing over again and still better Saturday k night.
