Some Big Land Deals.
Quite an important land deal has just been closed up. James Shafer, of Brook and Auditor S C. Jones, of Kentland, have just sold the old Paxton farm, in Newton tp., to Benjamin Martin, of Fowler, The farm is 320 acres in extent and the price was $13,110 acres cash. Of course oonsiderof the land .is needing draining, clearing etc, which accounts for the comparatively small price. The biggest land sale of the season is the one just recorded, from Union Tp. That is the sale by Carroll C. Kent, of Kentland, of a considerable portion of his Jasper county lands to A. D. Washburn, the superintendent of his whole ranch. The amount sold to Mr. Washburn is 824 acres and the price $24,746. Mr. Kent still owns between 2,000 and 3,000 acres in this county. The second largest land sale, recorded this week, in the amount of money paid, but not in acreage involved, is 160 acres in Carpenter tp. The price is $14,400, which is just S9O per acre. This is a marked contrast to the price paid by Mr. Washburn for the Kent land in Union. In tbat_ cuse $24,746 was paid for nearly 825 acres or just $lO per acre. The Carpenter sale was by John G. Schneider to Samuel T. King and wife.
