Pneumonia Caused Most Deaths.
• .... o tts ' ~ ~ The State Health Board’s bulletin for January was issued Thursday. Smallpox for the twwTty-fourth consecutive month leads the list as the most prevalent; 921 cases with 50 deaths. There were 2,910 deaths in January. This makes a death rate of 13.6. The greatest number of deaths, 410, was caused by pneumonia. Diphtheria caused 53 deaths, scarlet fever 23, whooping cough 19, cerebrospinal meningitis 33, influenza 39, cancer 88, violence 129, smallpox 50. The city death rate was 16.8, and the county death rate 11.9. Compared with January, 1902, there is an increase of .4 in the death rate for January.
