Sues for Five Thousand.
Frank Bricker, a young Walker tp. man, has brought suit, by C. E. Mills, his attorney, against Warren Springer, a Chicago millionaire, for $5,000 for personal injuries. Springer owns a big ranch in Walker tp., and last fall Bricker was working on the ranch under the orders of Springer’s farm foreman. He was helping operate a corn shredding machine which belongs to Springer. The machine got clogged up and the foreman ordered Bricker, to clean out where it was clogged. While obeying this order, according to the Complaint, the “paddles” of the machine, including a solid cylinder in which the “paddles” are set, exploded and the flying pieces tore one of Bricker’s hands to pieces, so that he lost several of his fingerff and a portion of his hand, and is thereby maimed for life. Bricker in his complaint, claims that one of these “paddles” was cracked and that the machine was known to be defective and unsafe by both Springer and his foreman and that therefore Springer should be held responsible for the injury Bricker sustained. Hence, as j above stated, damages of $5,000 j are demanded.
