Friday's Hammond Daily News. The good folk of Rensselaer are wottdering where Lawyer Chalfant is. Mr. Chalfant is one of the bright legal lumniaries of Rensselaer ; and his disappearance has caused the heartstrings of many a Rensselaer damaaLtqJLutter andter in-hirt with a broken pinion. Chalfant left Rensselaer last Fri. day gently spreading the report that he was going to Hammond. He intimated that he had business in Hammond. Now Rensselaer people class Hammond in the same category with Butte, Montana, Tombstone, Arizona and Deadwood, Dakota. They hate to hear of anyone coming up to Hammond and take any chances. So when it is known that Mr. Chalfant has not yet returned to Rensselaer, there is much worry there. No one has seen Mr. Chai, fant in Hammond and if he is here today no one knows of it.
