Where Railroads are the Principal Crop.

Newton county is likely to get a new railroad if it will be real good. A company called the Chicago, Terre Haute and Southeastern has just been incorported in this state. It is designed primarily as a coal road, to tap the coal fields of Sullivan county, this state. It’s route is stated to pass through Newton, Benton and Warren counties, and Lake county, of course. All railroads pass through Lake county. Farmers up in that county get up in the morning and count the railroads crossing their farms and frequently end by exclaiming: “Gosh! there’s another railroad over yonder. Wonder where that come from?” • As to people paying taxes in that county they never think of such a thing. The railroads pay taxes enough for everything.
